Australia’s peak body for carbon market professionals is calling for nominations to its inaugural annual awards which recognise excellence, leadership and outstanding achievement in carbon markets.
Held in conjunction with the southern hemisphere’s largest carbon trade fair and conference, Carbon Expo Australasia, the Carbon Market Institute’s awards will recognise the importance of people and their positive impact on building capacity in carbon markets to enable growth in a low-carbon world.
“With over a thousand delegates expected at this year’s Carbon Expo, it’s time to acknowledge the considerable input by our colleagues – in industry and in governments – in progressing the way to a new low carbon economy,” says Carbon Market Institute executive director Mike Tournier.
Almost a year has passed since the Australian Parliament agreed to introduce the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, but the road to get to this point was long and winding and the way wasn’t always clear. Nevertheless, there have been some real market champions who despite the difficult environment have made a real, positive impact both here in Australia and internationally.
“If you – or someone you’ve been working with – would like to be acknowledged for your achievements, I’d encourage you to enter,” Tournier says.
There are three award categories.
Most Outstanding Contribution to Carbon Markets for the Year
This is an award for quantifiable excellence and is open to individuals and organisations who demonstrate outstanding, innovative and/or entrepreneurial business achievements in carbon markets or related activities that significantly benefit the market. The winner will be recognised as someone that has influenced the future growth and success of carbon markets.
Journalist of the Year
Awarded for journalistic excellence for a body of work published or broadcast in any medium in the past year, the award recognises the positive contribution by a journalist to the future of carbon markets through fair and balanced reporting.
Personality of the Year
“Some might think that the topic of emissions trading and climate change mitigation is dry and dominated by policy wonks and serious lawyer types, but those in the know can attest to there being some rather interesting and charismatic characters in the carbon market space. This award is an opportunity to shine,” says Tournier.
As an award for personality, entrants are encouraged to get creative because this award is intended to be fun.
