Colorado senators pin layoffs on wind energy tax credit uncertainty

Colorado’s senators on Wednesday blamed congressional inaction on a tax credit benefiting wind power producers for a recent round of layoffs in their state.

Democratic Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet said Congress needs to extend the 2.2 cent per kilowatt-hour wind power production tax credit, known as the PTC, to stem wind energy sector job losses.

“We are seeing firsthand how Congress’ failure to act on an extension of the wind PTC is killing jobs right here in Colorado,” Bennet said in a statement. “An extension will support this vital industry at a crucial point in its development and save thousands of jobs in Colorado and tens of thousands across the rest of the country.
