The Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre is working to implement a waste management strategy in 15 municipals of the country within three months.
According to the SWMRMC, which is under the Ministry of Urban Development, attempts to manage waste began about three decades ago. However, only about a dozen municipals, including Kathmandu and Lalitpur, have been dumping waste at landfill sites.
“We have finalised a strategic action plan on waste management for 15 municipals,” said Dr Sumitra Amatya, executive director at the SWMRMC. In five municipalities — Bhimeshwor, Bhimadatta, Baglung, Ghorahi and Janakpur — the implementation of the plan will begin within a month, according to SWMRMC.
The 15 municipals selected for the programme are Bhim Datta, Dhangadhi, Tikapur, Birendranagar, Tulsipur, Ghorahi, Tansen, Lekhnath, Baglung, Bhimeshwor, Dhulikhel, Janakpur, Ilam, Damak and Dhankuta…
